Chin-a-holic
If you are not familiar with the rabbit behavior of "chinning" in which a rabbit scent marks possessions with his chin, Hugs can demonstrate this at any given opportunity. He chins every new thing the goes into his cage, including this paper plate.

Another guilty party
Magnus and the other four young bunnies have already left their mark in the new bunny room by chewing up some of the protective wallpaper.

Nothing is truly "bunny-proof"
Even if you remove everything from the room, by the time you turn around it is almost guaranteed that something will have been destroyed. Before I had this batch of bunnies, I didn't even know they could eat the wall. This is an old hole started by our original Three Amigos and continued by the next generation.

"But you've been calling me a boy!"
I checked our five babies today. They are going on four months old so it should be much easier to determine whether each is a boy or girl. Four are definitely girls, including Stitch, Magnus, and Tumble. The rest are waiting for a name according to their gender.

Non-standard markings
Magnus was born according to the hotot breed description but he has sprouted some non-standard markings as he matures. One of them is this "beauty mark" on the hip. But of course we love him no matter how spotty he becomes.

A new room
We finished the bunny room a few days ago. Some of the new features include:
Linoleum instead of carpet
A bunny shelf instead of end tables
Increased floor space for free running
A waste chute to the exterior through which to pass dirty bunny trays (instead of carrying them through the living room and out the front door)
It is bunny-owner approved. Very much so. Especially the waste slot.

Claim jumpers
The bunnies now have a whole bedroom to themselves where they can run around on the floor. I left the cage door open so the Kiwis could come and go, and then I found these two white rascals invading the "lops only" parking zone.

The Dinner Bell
We picked up a value pack of kitty bell ball toys yesterday. Vanna and Magnus played with theirs for a little bit, then they slam dunked it in their food bowl and left it there. I think they are trying to draw attention to the fact the bowl needs filling.

"What? No luxurious hotel?"
We were remodeling the bunny room today, so everybody had to wait in the front yard for a few hours. It is going to be great when the room is done.

Rumble the porcupine
Rumble reached an all-time high today on the stink-o-meter so he got a B-A-T-H. His hair dries very quickly and then it looks like the spines of a porcupine across his back.
A box o' bunnies
You'd think that the Kiwis would be happy to roam when they get the whole hallway to themselves. But what do they do? They all try to cram in litter box in the corner at one time.

A study in geneology
For Kiwi we have her pedigree also represented with pictures. One of the Kiwi Clones sees his ancestors for the first time. Lucky Magnus, he gets to see his grandpa Mochi all the time.

Afraid of the sun?
I learned something new about Magnus today when I opened the window. He threw a fit when the sun began shining in the room. He left and hid in this shadow box in the hallway.
Rumble did a much better job handling the glare.

Can't go wrong with Agouti
When we looked at Kiwi's pedigree, it seemed certain that she would have all babies with the agouti pattern, that is, with the white accents on the underside. It's hard not to love the pattern when you see the little flash of white tail as they hop around.

"Get the hint, Ma!"
The Three Amigos have a recommended fruit and veggie reference posted above their cage. But they stare me down as if it were the menu. To check the list, see http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html.

A mammal with pin feathers?
Our three boys have started shedding simultaneously. JD, being gray underneath his black tips, is very conspicuous during this season. Here you can see he has developed odd spots in his coat that I call "pin feathers."

Sitting in the shadow
Here is an example of the baby sitting in my shadow. When he is done running around, this is how he waits for me to pick him up.

A jaunt outside
What do you suppose a young rabbit would do when allowed to run loose on the property? Well this one stuffed his face full of grass, then ran a couple of short laps at full speed for some exercise, and then he bothered the cats for a while, all before coming back to me and staying in my shadow until it was time to go back inside.

Dirty toes
Hugs is the hardest to keep occupied because he is so active. His favorite game is to unravel crumpled pages from the phonebook. Thus, he constantly has newsprint feet.
No appreciation for art
You may remember when I made Vanna a nest box with her portrait on the side. Even though it was removed from her several weeks ago, I only noticed this damage yesterday.
