Video Bonus: X-Ray Vision

Rumble has a unique characteristic that some vets call "scanning." He turns his head side to side like an oscillating fan. It is harmless and also seems to be hereditary, because one of his babies moves just like him.
We like this unusual behavior. When he stands there, eyes locked on you, slowly scanning you over, it feels as though he is looking right through you like an x-ray.

So cute! Might it be a form of parallaxing? I think that's what it's called, when they bob their heads up and down to get a sense of distance because of their less than stellar depth perception? My girls do this all the time, maybe Rumble does his sideways!

a very interesting suggestion! it is possible. the only other thing I know about scanning is that it is most common in red-eyed whites.
