No vacancy
Mochi is very possessive of his snow fort. He chases everybunny out except for his sweetheart, Kiwi.

A gift worth binkying for
Yesterday, the bunnies received a huge gift from their Human great grandparents. A giant dog enclosure. We came home to discover it sitting in our front yard. The bunnies are trying it out for the first time and they love it!

"I'm no handyman!"
One of our smoke alarms started to beep in unwanted intervals. We couldn't even open the thing to access the battery. We threw it to Kiwi to see if she could do any better.

Girls night in
Now that we have separated some of Kiwi's litter, there remain just three in the family cage. With fewer kids at home, it seems more peaceful in there.

"Who has the keys?"
Kiwi, being 7 whole months older than our cat Freddie, feels qualified to give driving lessons (using the lawn mower).

A new room
We finished the bunny room a few days ago. Some of the new features include:
Linoleum instead of carpet
A bunny shelf instead of end tables
Increased floor space for free running
A waste chute to the exterior through which to pass dirty bunny trays (instead of carrying them through the living room and out the front door)
It is bunny-owner approved. Very much so. Especially the waste slot.

It's Jaws!
With her beady little black eye, gray fur with white underside, and her ravenous appetite, does she not remind you of a great white shark? Kiwi lunges for this carrot like it is her last one.

Time to go bowl shopping
The Kiwis are by far our largest consumers. I remember when Kiwi used to be a relaxed muncher. Now she devours everything as if it were a competition.

First time under the sun
The "Clones" (as we now call them) went outside for the first time today. They munched on grass with their mother. They met the kittens (who needed a refresher on being gentle). But by the the time noon came, they all hopped back in the box and flopped together in the heat.

5 hungry faces and one food bowl
Kiwi's babies act like fully grown rabbits now. Being under 5 weeks, they still have the nerve to push her out of the pellet bowl. One of them even figured out how to climb out the top of the cage.

The Kiwi Clan
They used to live in an old cage only 24" wide - not enough room for a mother and a box full of 4 growing Hollands. Uncles Ickus, Mochi, and JD have graciously given up their large cage and downsized their own living spaces. The Kiwis are much happier now.

Taking a break from the kids
Kiwi likes to perch atop her nest box. You can see that most of the fur she harvested for the nest came from her front legs. So she is looking a bit sloppy until it all grows back.

"How's everybody doin' in there?"
Vanna is a confident mommy and she doesn't mind me reaching into her nest box. Kiwi, however, has to go inspect the box after I leave. "Okay, head check! One... two..."

A litter of four!
Kiwi had some big babies today. You can already see their color: they are all agouti like their mom, with the light bellies. We are so proud of our little mommies!

Video Bonus: Kiwi Collects
Kiwi is just one or two days away from having a litter of her own. It will be the first litter for her and for Rumble. So far she shows promise as a mother. She has been hard at work all evening collecting paper shreds for her nest box. Notice how she uses any surface to continue shoving paper in her mouth rather than making two trips to the box.

Plain priorities
Kiwi stands on her bowl full of pellets to get a bite of romaine. Behind her you can see the gestation calendar. If all goes well, we will have two litters within the month. They will be so special!

Destruction and dirty looks
We suspect Kiwi might have a litter coming. If so, she is on day 11, but we cannot feel anything developing inside. Her attitude has been a little different lately, however. She shredded her cage liner and she sulks in the corner more often.

Video bonus!
Kiwi finally took interest in pinecones and I caught her playing with one (while someone plays with a guitar in the background).
