VIdeo Bonus: A Failed Flop

One of the babies tries a snuggle and a flop at the same time.

There are a lot of expensive toys out there...

...But an old box is a bunny's best friend.

Crowding can be a hobby?

The Vanna Bunch have plenty of space, but they always seem to pile upon each other, especially around the water bottle. I think they like it and they do it on purpose.

Panda Bottom

Bandit also has the nickname Panda Bottom, because of those black feet and tail.

The cat: a second mother

Cow is a good roommate to the bunnies. She is also handy to keep around because she can call us to the bunny room but Vanna can't.

They grow up so fast

Our new litter of babies is getting so furry! It seems that they were at the 'peach fuzz' stage for one day.

Genes in action

Bandit as an infant

He later grew to look like this.

Vanna's litter contains two standard hotots, with the white body and the black eyeband, just like the parents. However the third kit (Bandit) is completely mismarked for a hotot. One may wonder, "Where do all those spots come from if the parents are all white?"
It is because hotots are a unique expression of the English spot pattern and Dutch pattern. When the gene combination is just right, the baby has a bleached body and color is left in the eyebands only.
For this third little kit, you can see he has a Dutch head and English spots on the body. Nonetheless, he is just as welcome to the family.

A study in geneology

For Kiwi we have her pedigree also represented with pictures. One of the Kiwi Clones sees his ancestors for the first time. Lucky Magnus, he gets to see his grandpa Mochi all the time.

A jaunt outside

What do you suppose a young rabbit would do when allowed to run loose on the property? Well this one stuffed his face full of grass, then ran a couple of short laps at full speed for some exercise, and then he bothered the cats for a while, all before coming back to me and staying in my shadow until it was time to go back inside.

Exploring the prairie

One of Kiwi's unnamed takes a short jaunt while one of the kittens stands watch.

Exploring the front yard

I enjoy taking the little ones out in the front yard lately, where we have no fence. The babies are too shy to just dart off like the adults do, and the kittens naturally round up the rabbits like a sheepdog would.

Sleepy eyes

Stitch is the most active and the strongest of the litter, but always has such a lazy face when he is sitting still.

"Play time is over? Already?"

Magnus gets picked up and carried back inside.

"Are the puddles gone yet?"

Tumble, one of the babies from Rumble and Kiwi's litter, goes exploring outside.

Magnus: Future lifeguard

Magnus takes on a solemn duty, even as a youngster. Most kids want to play in the pool but he wants to adopt some serious responsibility.

Jane! Stop this crazy thing!

You know your bunny babies are growing fast when they don't fit into a monster truck.

Kitten meets kit

Our girl Freddie meets one of Kiwi's fledglings during its first run outside today. After a stern reminder, Freddie was very gentle and properly introduced herself to the babies.

Mother and baby

We have been calling the baby Magnus. He was the very big one in the litter. And that name was on an episode of Kick Buttowski not long after he (or she) was born. Hope it's a boy!

5 more minutes...

Vanna's kit tries to hide under a pillow.
